Pump up the music: Download songs from the gas pump!

Microsoft and Dresser Wayne (fuel dispenser manufacturer) teamed up to bring a new prototype gas pumper that’s allows you to download music from the web while your filling up the car. The demonstration was displayed at the Microsoft Automotive Business Unit at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show.

The idea is called The Dresser Wayne Ovation² iX fuel dispenser which enables the transfer of media content to other WiFi-enabled devices with the use of a 15-inch touchscreen at the gas pump. As part of the demo, audio files where purchased and downloaded from the Dresser Wayne fuel dispenser to a compatible media device (cell phone or entertainment system) and then played through the Alpine IVA-W200 stereo system installed in a navigation system installed in a Lincoln Navigator.

The partners call this an “excited new experience for consumers and retailers.” I call it, “other people making endless money on the fact that I’m waiting in line at the pump behind a fat guy in a Dodge Caravan trying to download the whole Britney Spears album.” Posted by Dani
