Peugeot 308: First Official Pictures!

These are the first official pictures of Peugeot’s brand new compact hatch, the 308 which will succeed the 307 in the French carmaker’s range. Its design, which combines styling elements from the 207, the 407 and its predecessor, the 307, comes to no surprise as we’ve already had the chance to see various uncamouflaged prototypes on the road the past weeks. Still, as we’ve already noted before, we expected something more than a bloated 207 from Peugeot.

While the 308’s designers followed the same path in the interior borrowing most of the 207’s design elements, thanks to minor variations like the Italian-styled circular air-vents and the different climate controls, it actually looks distinct to the untrained eye. The pictures might be official; however, the car hasn’t been announced by Peugeot. Meaning, no official info rmation -yet(...). From what our sources told us though, the new Golf sized Pug will be available with the 207's new 120Hp 1.6 and 150 & 170 Hp 1.6 Turbo engines with sales starting this autumn.

Video: 2008 Peugeot 308 Caught On Tape

Or rather un-taped as the 308 shown on this amateur video has no sign of camouflage. We guess it won’t be long till Peugeot breaks out the first official images of their new VW Golf contender as the guy driving the Pug didn’t seem to care much for our nosy spy in the neighboring car. Besides, we’ve already seen a whole bunch of images of the 308 varying from commercial shots in South Africa to completely uncovered prototypes in Europe. -Check out the Video after the jump

2008 Peugeot 308 Snapped Totally Uncovered

Let down. That’s how we feel after seeing the first totally unmasked pictures of the upcoming Peugeot 308. If we didn’t know better we’d say that the car we’re looking at is nothing more than a 207 after a couple of nights on the Procrustean bed and an intermediate “butt to butt” contact with a Nissan Tiida. Judging from the images, we bet that most people will either pass the 308 for the current (facelifted) 307 or even a 207. Pity, cause design-wise, Peugeot had got off to a really good start with the latest 207 and 407s. –Continued after the jump

There are no official specs out, but expect the 308 to be offered among others, with BMW-PSA Peugeot-Citroen’s jointly developed, 1.6 & 1.6 Turbo engines delivering 120 to 170 HP. The new 308 will be officially unveiled at the September Frankfurt Motor Show with the CC and Station Wagon/Break versions following in late 2008 - early 2009.

2008 Peugeot 308 Scoop Part II

Images of a relatively undisguised Peugeot 308 undergoing a photo shoot in S.Africa just keep coming in revealing more and more on Pug’s Golf rival. These particular pictures come from Car Magazine and they where shot in Cape Town and they give us a first view of the 308’s larger-than-life front grille. As we’ve already noted, the 308 will be unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Show with sales staring a couple of months later. See yesterday’s images here. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

2008 Peugeot 308: Reader snaps Peugeot’s upcoming Golf rival

If you’re a spy shot “freak”, then you’ll know that French carmakers are among the most punctilious chaps in the industry when it comes to camouflaging cars. Not this time though as a reader of Wheels24 named Francois Malan managed to scoop the best images yet of the upcoming 308 with very little camouflage during a photo or advertisement shoot outside the city Stellenbosch in South Africa. Despite the verbal and... finger threats Malan managed to get away safe and sound along with the pics. -Continued: Click “Read More…” below

From we made from the images, the 308 looks like a blown up 207 with a 407 front end. Scheduled to make its debut at this years Frankfurt Auto Show in September, the 308 will be offered among others with the BMW-PSA Peugeot-Citroen developed, 1.6 & 1.6 Turbo engines delivering between 120 and 170 HP.
