Rally Driver Nearly Drowns After "Crashing" Into A Lake

Now this is what we call reality-rally. Watch what happened to the driver and his co-driver from the in-car camera when they missed a turn and headed full speed into a lake. Freaky, to say the least.

Nemesis: Man Leaves Girlfriend On Railway, She Gets Hit And Lives, He Gets Hit By His Car And Dies

What a tragic yet, unbelievable story. A 21-year-old Californian man who tried to kill his 23-year-old female companion by leaving her in a parked car on a railway crossing at San Fernando Road and Branford Street, L.A. was ironically killed himself when the oncoming Metrolink commuter train threw the parked Dodge into him.

According to eyewitnesses, the couple had been seen arguing in their 2005 Dodge Magnum when suddenly, the man pulled the car into the opposing lane and parked it on the railway lines gate just before the crossing arm dropped. Although some witnesses told police that the man jump out of the Dodge just as the train hit the vehicle, police are unsure whether he also intended to commit suicide. Although seriously injured, the young woman is expected to survive. Luckily no one aboard the train, which was carrying 132 passengers and crew, was injured. Via: LA Times

8-Year-Old Leads Police On A Car Chase!

Unlike our previous juvenile joy-rider and despite the fact that he was half his age and probably in need of a booster to see out the window, this kid at least had the “decency” of bringing the car to his home in one piece and… the right way up. However, let start from the beginning. The 8-year-old took the keys from his family car and set off for a mid-day joy-ride. The boy’s and the car’s absence were noticed by the 8-year-old’s grandma who notified the police. The latter didn’t have a difficult time in finding him; however, he lead the police to a low-speed pursuit for 5-10 minutes at speeds between 25 and 35mph, causing a car accident on the way that resulted to an injured driver.

But the story didn’t stop for the police their as once the kid parked at his home he refused to get out of the car causing his mother to go bazurk at the police who finally arrested her for child endangerment and assault on a peace officer. Via: Wcbstv

Teen Drops Into An Office Basement... With A Ford Focus!

A 16-year-old’s joy ride in a stolen Ford Focus came to an abrupt end in Edinburgh, UK on Tuesday (March 15, 2007) when the teen attempted to make a getaway after spotting a police vehicle. According to reports the 16-year-old lost control of the car as he tried to take a bend at high speed and ended up, or rather sideways down, in an office basement at the corner of North Castle Street and Hill Street. Luckily no one was hurt.

Ironically, the police stated that they hadn’t noticed the vehicle! A police spokesman said: "It was a stolen vehicle but I can confirm he was not being pursued by the police. He saw a police car and drove off at high speed before swerving and crashing into the basement." Via: Theregister

Russian Hara-Kiri: Land Rover Discovery Disembowelled

Those Russian folks sure know how to build some tenacious railings as you can see for yourself in these pictures. What a freaky accident; the metal railings literally impaled the Discovery / LR3! There’s no word on whether the driver managed to get out of this accident in one piece, but if he did, he’d better start believing in divine forces... -More pictures after the jump

Safety Ad: Even Dummies Wear Seatbelts...

This witty commercial is the work of ad agency Publicis Helsinki and their client, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland. In the TV commercial humans and dummies have swapped places in order to show that even a dummy is aware that the use of seatbelts significantly reduce your chances of being seriously injured or knock on wood, dying in case of an accident. It’s not a matter of being a law abiding citizen, it’s a matter of living or dying. Simple as that.

Top Gear involved in crash of the extremely rare, bio-fuelled Koenigsegg CCXR

And when we say extremely rare, we mean it literally; there’s only one Koenigsegg CCXR in existence! Ouch? Um, not exactly because luckily, when the 1.018Hp bio-fuelled CCXR hit a highway cone on a right hand curve at 120mph (193 km/h) sending it spinning around like crazy before stopping in a ditch, Top Gear’s associate, peter Grunert was sitting in the co-drivers seat; the driver was no other than... one of Koenigsegg's own senior engineers! Ouch for him them. And to imagine that Koenigsegg sent that bloke to take over the responsibility of driving the CCXR (worth £606,000 / $1.2 million / €890.000) between photographic locations for Top Gear! Unbelievable: The Driver Walked Out Of This With Minor Injuries!

If this isn't the definition of luck I don't know what is...This accident occurred a couple of days ago in the capitol of Finland, Helsinki and despite the fact that the VW Golf III Variant was literally squashed by the Russian 18-wheeler freight-truck, according to the folks at VWVortex, the driver actually managed to walk away from this horrid incident bearing minor injuries! Like several people commented on the forum, just seems his time hadn't come yet. -More images after the jump

Update: Gumball "Hit & Run" Driver Arrested Again As He Tried To Flee FYROM In Private Jet!

Remember the British Gumball Rally 3000 driver that was arrested in FYROM (Former Republic of Macedonia) for a “hit & run” incident that caused the death of Vladimir Cepuljoski, 67 and his wife Margarita (she died on Friday, May 4)? Well Nick Morley, 30, seems to have created a habit for running away as just hours after a judge granted him bail, he was arrested at Skopje Airport trying to flee the Balkan country in a private jet! -Continued after the jump

FYROM’s Interior Ministry spokesman Ivo Kotevski told the The Sunday Telegraph: "The court revoked its original decision and granted Mr Nick Morley bail late yesterday. He was even given his passport back as a sign of good will. But within hours, Mr Morley ordered a private jet to pick him up from Skopje. While trying to board at 10pm on Friday, Mr Morley was recognised by the border officer. It is astonishing that Mr Morley attempted to leave the country. He has got competent legal representation and the authorities have made sure his rights were guaranteed."

Run, Nick Morley, run…

Gumball 3000 Rally: Two Brits charged for fatal "Hit & Run" incident in FYROM

The cross-European Gumball 3000 rally is receiving a lot of attention the past few hours, unfortunately though, for the wrong reasons. According to reports, Nicholas Morley, 30, and Matthew McConvile, 32, both British citizens, have been arrested in FYROM (Former Yugoslavian Republic Of Macedonia) for a hit & run incident when their Porsche 911 crashed into an elderly couple’s VW Golf, killing Vladimir Cepuljoski, 67 and seriously injuring his wife, Margarita who remains hospitalized in critical condition. Apparently, the two Brits tried to escape by getting into another car but they were caught by FYROM police. -Continued below

"Two British citizens left the scene of accident. Shortly afterward, border authorities found them in another (car) ... at the Qafasan border crossing with Albania. Both Britons are testifying before an investigative magistrate in the town of Struga (about 190Km southwest from the capital Skopje), where a decision will be made whether to hold them in custody or not" said police spokesman Ivo Kotevski.

We have no idea yet on how the accident happened, but if the accusations for hit & run charges stand, we have no words to describe our feelings for these two blokes.

Disintegrated Lotus Elise

According to reports this horrific accident happened in Austin Texas last week (April 26) and unfortunately, from what we learned, the driver didn’t make it out alive. If you follow the jump there’s more pictures of the torn apart Elise which practically looks like it was run over something. We don’t have any details on how the accident occurred but there’s an image of the speedo showing 112mph (180 km/h). Although that could mean that the unfortunate driver was either going significantly faster when he lost control or that something went bad really fast, it could also mean nothing considering how sensitive the speedometer needles are. –More Images below

Chinese Road collapses creating a hole the size of a house!

We hate to think what could of happened if people or cars were crossing this part of Shunwai Road in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China when the sudden collapse occurred. To get an idea, according to Chinese officials it’s estimated that the hole is about 72 square meters or 775 square ft big and 7 meters or 23 ft deep! The cave in happened yesterday (April 25) and luckily there were no injuries reported. Via: Sina

Ex-Cop Blows 0.47% on blood alcohol reading: Sets Washington State Record

When it rains, it pours, especially in ex-cop Deana Jarret’s case. This 54 year old woman from Woodinville, Washington “won” the state record for the highest blood alcohol reading of 0.47%. Of course, this was after she struck two other vehicles that night and penalized for the same offense a week before. To put things into perspective, the legal limit in Washington is 0.08% and the lethal level is 0.40%. One doctor commented that she actually should have been dead at that level of intoxication. It looks as though someone’s a fan of the Moonshine. Posted by Dani

Video: Sleepy Driver Crashes Through Gas Station!

“Stay awake, take a break, for safety’s sake”. There’s a reason why they post these signs all over the place. They are probably directed towards people like this West Virginian woman who fell asleep behind the wheel of her pickup truck, crashed through a gas pump, demolished the mini mart
narrowly missing three people who were inside. This could have been a lot worse than it was. The accident occurred a couple of days ago and according to 6abc, the owners are installing new concrete barriers to prevent something like this from happening again. Info: 6abc

Video: 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class DTM goes up in flames during presentation!

Boy, talk about things going wrong when they shouldn’t! Listen to this; a couple of days ago, during a DTM presentation in Düsseldorf, a 2002 Mercedes CLK-DTM race car dressed in a 2008 C-Class outfit (for demonstration purposes) went up in flames leaving the huge crowd totally speechless! Mercedes even came out with an official press-release saying that the fire was caused due to an overheated brake that occurred when the car’s driver, Bruno Spengler spun a few (very hot) doughnuts! Ouch… -Press Release after the jump

PRES RELEASE: DTM Presentation, Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf, Apr 16, 2007

An incident, in which nobody got injured, occurred during the DTM presentation programme at Düsseldorf’s Königsallee. The rear of a former DTM race car (Mercedes-Benz CLK-DTM from the year 2002), driven by Bruno Spengler, caught fire due to an overheated brake. The car was a five-year-old race car that had been fitted with the bodywork of the new C-Class for demonstration runs.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire within three minutes. “First of all the important thing: nothing happened to anyone”, said Bruno Spengler. “I noticed smoke coming into the cockpit, I stopped immediately, I got out of the car and discovered that the rear of the car had caught fire due to the untypical overheating of the rear brake when I spun doing some doughnuts.” After an initial inspection, the team found that the car can be repaired. Gerhard Ungar, HWA’s technical director: “The so-called doughnuts (spinning of the car on the spot), put untypical strain on the brakes because of a lack of cooling airstream. Therefore, the brakes on Bruno’s car today overheated and caught fire. The reason of the fire is still being investigated.”

The quick intervention by the fire brigade has shown that the safety concept made up beforehand by the fire brigade, the police and the ITR was effective. The event continued as planned.
